Tour "MEETING THE JUBARTE WHALES"
9:00 hrs Speech about the Meeting of Jubarte Whales, bringing subjects such as legislation and biology
9:30 hrs Sailing for about 1 hour in the Rei Cigano boat, up to reaching the area where the whales are, and staying for about 2 hours.
12:00 hrs Returning to the base, with arrival estimated by 01:30 pm.
The agency is equipped with a hydrophone, to listen to the whales talking, and in case the sea is calm, tourists will be invited for a swimming
The team has an ecological guide and 3 sailors well trainned and experient in Whale Watching Tours.
During the tour it will be served fruits, mineral water, cofee and cracks.
IMPORTANT REMARKS:
- Tours can be unscheduled in case climatic conditions are not good enough.
- The time of the tour can vary plus or minus, depending on the day, after all one day is diferent of another.
- Chances to watch the whales are over 95%. In case there´s no whales around, customer will come back the day after, or will be reimbursed in 80%.
- This is an impredictable promenade, as we never know before hand how many whales will be seen, and neither we know how they will behave. We got to take into consideration that we are dealing with savage animals, threatened by extinction and away from its normal habitat. Therefore the interaction between the boat crew and whales depend exclusively on them.
Why do the Jubarts come to Cumuruxatiba?
They visit us from July to November thanks to our warm and shallow waters, which make them to swim from the South Pole till Cumuruxatiba, in the area we use to call Whales Coast, with the purpose to reproduce, procreate and feed their babies. However, this migration all over the time, was interrupted by hunting to these mammifers that, despite its size and weighting 40 tons, are sweet and inocents. Since the capture prohibition in national waters as of 1987, their returnal has grown significantly and we can already find them all thru the coast. But it is in Cumuruxatiba that they have been staying closer to the coast, allowing all of us to meet them in a confortable and safe way.
The Hotel Cumuruxatiba - Costa das Baleias, in association with Aquamar, the local tourism agency, promotes tours during the annual season, with the purpose to take you to meet the whales. The route till the observation is done with their own ships, under government rules and strictly within the regulations for Whale Watching. You will have a 30 minutes speech prior to living, about Jubarte biology by guides that will assist you during the tour.
